What's Natural Nutrition Anyway

The art of natural nutrition is about working with your diet to help support your body in maintaining or achieving optimal health. Furthermore, it is about helping you establish a dialogue with your body so you can better read its signs, understand its clues and respond accordingly.

Organic Food

Whereas in recent years organic food buying was limited to the so called ‘healthy wealthy’, nowadays it is purchased even by the more cost-conscious. What started as a flower power trend in the mid-80s, twenty years down the line is rapidly becoming mainstream. Is the hype justified? Is organic truly better for you? Why should we buy organic? And should we buy it at any cost?

Probiotics
Big word, very popular, sells lots, but what is it exactly? and should you be taking it?

Stress

Stress is a notion that’s close to the heart of natural nutrition. Put simply, all causes of disease can be traced to an unreasonable level of stress being placed on your body. If stress levels are prolonged and/or unreasonable, the body loses its ability to rid itself of the rubbish and rebalance. It becomes a toxin dump, and a perfect breeding ground for viruses and bacteria.

A Vegetarian Diet - Any Problems With That?

The question of the soundness of a vegetarian diet comes up again and again. I can’t avoid feeling that in most people’s minds the word ‘vegetarian’ equates with an unbalanced or unhealthy form of eating. In truth, there is more than one way in which to eat just as there is more than one way to speak, dress and learn. Meat or no meat, the message is the same. Any diet, vegetarian or non-vegetarian, must be wholesome, balanced and individually suited to support your health and functioning to the full.

The Raw Food Diet - Good or Bad for You?

Lately we have been bombarded by an unequivocal message – ‘Eat Raw Food!’. It’s rich in nutrients and enzymes, of low calorific value, energizing for our body, and it clears the head, blood and cells. Apparently, the more we have, the better it is for us.

Is this really so?

A New Take on New Year's Resolutions

January is always a good month in which to start a bit of a nutritional review. Christmas cakes and bubbly booze have been translated into a few extra pounds, and you have made the inevitable New Year Resolution to, yet again, lose weight – this time for good, of course. And it’s a good time for resolutions, too, because you want to feel invigorated, rejuvenated and motivated to start the new year afresh, and face its challenges with plenty of energy.

Natural Cosmetics: If You Can't Eat It, Don't Smear It

Wouldn’t we all love to have soft, velvety skin? The desire to possess a perfect, smooth, peachy complexion has been with us (in particular us females) for as long as we have existed, and has helped the cosmetics industry reach the gigantic proportions it has. However, the secret to beautiful skin lies less in costly cosmetics and more in internal nourishment. If you treat your body kindly and nourish it healthily, it will pay you back handsomely with lovely skin.

Yoga and Nutrition

Yoga and healthy eating share many common principles, which are not always apparent at first sight. Both yoga and healthy nutrition put an emphasis on personal experimentation and on self-improvement and development. In both cases, no one can do it for you; you, and only you control the rate of experience and learning. Both yoga and healthy eating offer a continuous, challenging and unending learning experience, which allows us to become aware of ourselves and our body in a more constructive way, to grow and develop clear and helpful insights regarding our bodies, minds, souls and lives. For those who are willing to pick up the gauntlet, the experience can be unforgettable.

Have You Ever Considered a Home Birth?

I have three children and it is fair to say that through their births I have experienced both extremes of child delivery. It was after the birth of my second daughter that I felt like climbing on roof tops and shouting to the world “have a home birth”. Instead, I thought I’d opt for the less laborious way of writing an article.
